WhyNot.Org.Au – Iman Barabadi Portfolio

WhyNot.Org.Au

A responsive website for young writers.

Overview

To redesign an existing website of a not-for-profit organisation. The challenge was to find the values that such a platform is offering and how we can improve it with a new user experience and interface. As part of a team challenge, not only we have improved the visual experience, but also we added a new feature to the platform. The result was well received with the team as well as, the people who run this website.

ROLE

UX & UI Designer

User Research, Market Analysis, User Flow, Lo-fi & Hi-fi Prototypes, Testing & Iterations

Background

What is WhyNot.org?

A platform to allow young people to have a voice. A place that was monitored and articles censored to keep the website safe. WhyNot is the only place that lets general people post thoughts. INKspire and Choma are similar platforms, just no contributions from general public.

WhyNot is for young people, by young people –
WhyNot is supported by the Y's across Australia.

Research

We started our research phase by defining our user and its challenges:

  • How do users engage WhyNot?
  • Is the platform meeting users’ expectations?
  • How users benefit from WhyNot?
  • Does WhyNot allow users to connect with their community?

We refined our user proto-persona to identify our user persona. Creating our user persona helped our team discover and discuss potential design solutions that might meet our real user needs.

Jakes’s user insight statement helped us understand his motivation & needs on how and why he would use our design. It also helped our team visualise aspects of the solutions created
