I had the privilege of working on the Saint-Gobain Price List project, a complex task that involved updating and publishing this critical document once or twice a year.
Previously, the process involved manual data entry, copying, and pasting from Excel to InDesign, which not only consumed time but also introduced the risk of data errors and product order mix-ups. To address this challenge, I adopted a ‘what if’ approach to find a more efficient solution.
After careful exploration, I discovered that the key to streamlining the process was using GREP style to dynamically link Excel data with InDesign. This allowed me to automatically style all rows of data, including product range titles and product type titles, in the design. As a result, I was able to cut the design production time in half. This significant time savings gave me the bandwidth to focus on enhancing the interactive PDF of the book, creating captivating cover designs tailored for the AU and NZ markets and a responsive landing page.
By leveraging innovative problem-solving and creative thinking, I not only simplified a complex workflow but also contributed to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the project.
